Today Mexico’s central bank, lowered interest rates by 25bp.

While they remain at 8%, they seem to be preparing for a serious economic slowdown, because Mexico’s central bank normally doesn’t mess with interest rates. Last time they lowered them was five years ago.

Many alarm bells are being rung across the world. Are we headed into another financial crisis?

Economics are a guessing game. Maybe lowering the rates 25bp has no effect, or maybe it triggers debilitating inflation. We can only tell with more time

My tinfoil hat theory:

Trump and his closest team have been playing the world economy to make money on the markets the last few years. Want to make some money on Boeing stock? Let me get on Twitter. That worked well! How about we screw with some Canadian companies and get their stock cheap? Let me get on Twitter. That worked too! How about China?

In think it will ratchet up to take advantage of his remaining time in office.

The president has far less of an effect on the economy than any of us think, but with his trade war with China, Trump’s having more of an effect than most.

It doesn’t take huge swing for a small group of people to make a lot of money, especially if they know when the dips are going to happen.
